Watermelon and Strawberry Sangria

My absolute favourite day of the week would have to be Sunday.  It is the day that I can sleep in a little, spend hours at the park with my dogs and put my feet up with my husband.  Another thing I love about Sunday?  Afternoon cocktails!  Yes, Scott and I definitely love to indulge in a delicious cocktail or two on Sundays.  As a former bartender he usually makes me something insanely
delicious, but this week it's my turn and I'm making Watermelon and Strawberry Sangria!
For this particular recipe you will need the following:

  • 1 small seedless watermelon, rind removed, flesh cut into large chunks (about 4 cups)
  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled and sliced, 1 cup reserved for garnish
  • 1 bottle rose wine, cold
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced

  1. Combine the watermelon and strawberries in a blender and blend until smooth; add a splash of the vodka if needed to get the fruit pureed.
  2. Strain into a large pitcher; you will need about 4 cups total juice.
  3. Add the rose, vodka, orange juice and stir to combine.
  4. Add the orange and lime slices, cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 24 hours. Just before serving, add the reserved strawberries. Serve in glasses over ice.
